Three years earlier, Judith's husband had died of sunstroke. While under seige, the city wanted to surrender to General Holofernes. Judith however, had another idea. She decided to take off her mourning clothes, and put on bright, attractive clothing. She hid a sword under her cloak and went to General Holofernes' encampment. When she got there, she went to Holofernes, and ate dinner with him. Holofernes got so drunk that he passed out on the floor. Then Judith drew her sword and chopped off his head in one clean motion.</div><br /><div>She walked back to Bethulia and showed the elders the head. From then onward, her name was celebrated and she was very popular. Although she was very attractive, she refused to marry another man for the rest of her life.
